Question:
You write that when Moshiach comes, our only occupation will be to study Torah and know G-d. It sounds like we will never have any fun!
Answer:
In the Messianic era, activities that seem to have no value or interest to us now will suddenly take on a new significance.
G-d created us all with the ability to experience pleasure on many levels: We can enjoy eating a tasty food, taking a vacation to an exotic location, purchasing a new car or piece of furniture, or attending a show or concert. All of these activities can bring satisfaction on some level; however, when they are not coupled with any sense of meaning or purpose, these pleasures can quickly feel empty and worthless.
Moshiach's coming will cause a fundamental change in our outlook on life. It is difficult to explain the Messianic era using only the terms and experiences that we are familiar with now. We will become cognizant of a new level of reality, and see spirituality and holiness where today we see only the mundane. Thus, activities that seem to have no value or interest to us now will suddenly take on a new significance; at the same time, things that are important to us now might suddenly seem to be meaningless.
Actually, each of us will experience the benefits and joy of the Messianic era on our own level. For example, when we teach children about Moshiach, we tell them that candies will grow on trees and all delicacies will be freely available like dust. One who already has a mature appreciation for Torah study will look forward to the Messianic era as a time to get closer to the Divine, without worldly cares and pressures. However, all of these motivations are fundamentally true, and we will all feel a full level of satisfaction with life in the Messianic era.
