Gov. and Chabad Rabbis Attend 9/11 Memorial Event
Governor Chris Christie requested the presence of Rabbi Yosef Carlebach of Chabad of Central NJ and Rabbi Mendy Carlebach of Chabad of North & South Brunswick at the official 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Ground Zero on Sunday, Sept.11, 2011.

A early start to the day was necessary as NYC and the nation was on high alert for a terror attack. As a result, guests of the Governor were told to arrive early in the morning at Port Authority Police HQ in Jersey City, NJ and take a escorted bus through the "Frozen Zones" to Ground Zero.

As the Ceremony was to last into the early afternoon, the chances of a minyan for "shacharis" (morning service) after the ceremony were slim to none. Rabbi Mendy Carlebach a Port Authority Police Chaplain arranged for use of a conference room at HQ for "Shacharis". The minyan included the Chabad Rabbis, leader of the Lakewood community Rabbi Aaron Kotler, Rabbi Zwickler of Congregation AABJ&D, West Orange, NJ, a leader of the Satmar Community and PAPD Chaplain Rabbi Joel Eisdorfer, and several members of the Port Authority Police Dept.

Following the minyan the Superintendent and a couple of high ranking police officials heard the shofar and requested that a prayer be said that all should go well that day.

At Ground Zero, the VIP's and Governor's guests were escorted to a special viewing stand on the 21st floor of the newly built One World Trade Center (WTC). The ceremony included speeches by President Barak Obama, President George Bush and many other notables. During the five hour program the group of Rabbis and notables were personally greeted by Governor Chris Christie, US Senator Frank  Lautenberg
, Port Authority Chairman David Samson, Port Authority Commissioner Jeff Moerdler, Port Authority Dep. Director Bill Baroni, and renowned performer-singer Paul Simon. The group was also given a guided tour of the new construction of One WTC by Commissioner Jeff Moerdler and Director of Construction - WTC Steven Plate.

This program was attended by 10,000 family members of the 9/11 victims and watched by millions of people worldwide.
